Our partnerships with Rappahannock General Hospital, RGH Home Health, Chesapeake Medical Group, and various health centers and long-term care facilities in the community enable our therapists to follow our clients through all stages of their injury or illness and have a collaborative effort in rehabilitating you to good health. At RGH Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center, you can be assured of prompt and courteous service, a comprehensive evaluation and best-in-class treatment by our team of professionals. As a courtesy to our clients, our office staff will obtain any necessary precertification from third party payers and submit all documentation required to facilitate the filing and payment of claims. We do, however, recommend that you contact your insurance company to confirm the details of your benefit package for therapy services.

Physical Therapy
RGH’s Physical Therapy staff includes numerous therapists with extensive backgrounds in all aspects of physical therapy evaluation and treatment, including:

  • orthopedic rehabilitation
  • neurological rehabilitation
  • sports medicine
  • aquatic therapy
  • orthotic and prosthetic assessment and training
  • burn and wound care
  • pain management

The goals of therapy are to reduce or eliminate pain, restore normal range of motion, flexibility and strength, and to improve posture and mobility to allow you to return to the optimum level of function.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy (OT) services are offered to individuals who have had a decline in function from their normal routines (activities of daily living) or who have developmental disabilities which limit their ability to participate in everyday tasks. There are many medical conditions that can impact a person’s ability to care for themselves and lead to functional decline.

Low Vision
Low Vision occurs when there is a loss of sight that cannot be corrected by glasses, medicine or surgery. With intervention from a specially trained occupational therapist, people with low vision can learn different ways to continue to do the things they love and need to do in order to live and keep their quality of life.

Speech Therapy
Speech Therapy services are offered to individuals with speech, language, voice or swallowing difficulties. Individual and group treatment, along with home programs, help minimize deficits and increase independence for clients with acute or progressive neurological disorders, voice and fluency disorders, developmental disabilities and dysphagia. Our swallowing treatment program includes VitalStim® Therapy, which provides effective treatment for individuals with swallowing difficulties. VitalStim® is a noninvasive, painless treatment that uses electrical stimulation to strengthen the muscles of the throat used in swallowing.

Aquatic Therapy
RGH Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center has a custom-built, heated therapeutic pool that allows us to include aquatic therapy in our full line of rehabilitation services. Aquatic Therapy is ideal for:

  • orthopedic injury rehabilitation
  • postoperative recovery and rehabilitation
  • neurological rehabilitation
  • chronic pain
  • arthritis

Anodyne® Therapy
Our neuropathy treatment program, using the Anodyne® Therapy System, provides effective treatment for pain, numbness and balance impairments associated with peripheral diabetic neuropathy.

LSVT® BIG & LOUD is an intensive physical therapy exercise and speech program for people with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. Treatments for the BIG program target the production of larger amplitude whole body functional movements while retraining the sensory awareness of the effort required for normal movement. The LOUD program effectively treats common speech problems associated with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions including soft voice, mumbled speech and hoarse voice. Treatment includes sixteen one-hour therapy sessions over the course of four weeks.

Wellness Program
Our Wellness Program is designed as a maintenance program for patients who have already completed their individual therapy treatments. The program concentrates on maintaining the aerobic and conditioning strength gains achieved through previous therapy sessions. Throughout the program, we closely monitor patients’ weight, blood pressure and oxygen saturation levels and collaborate with your physician to report your progress or any abnormal findings.
